FREDERICK LUFF

Born in 1957 Santa Monica California, USA. From the very time young Frederick’s tempera clown painting was stolen from the school’s main window he was heartbroken, yet sure of his conviction that his would be an artist’s life. He could not have known at this age how intently in the following years his search would continue to recreate the satisfaction gained in the creation of this lost work of art. Over the years Frederick’s portfolio developed with the encouragement of great teachers, mentors and a supportive family. NBC Studios scenic department summer jobs were great experiences, mixing and matching paint the old fashioned way. Frederick received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts, debate continues to this day on the exact nature of art. Frederick remains convinced that one really could use color as the primary force in making beautiful paintings. Later, developing a career in special effects for thirty years kept him busy creating movie props where time was always of the essence. This was his masters course working with some of the most respected and illustrious cinema artists of our time. “Every chance I had found me relaxing with my brushes and an Impressionist’s oil color pallet in hand seeking my first elusive love” Because Frederick paints in all media, imagination plays an important role in his approach to subject matter, all genres such as abstract, figurative, still life, and landscape” may be found in his prolific works. Today he enjoys a handful of shows each year that give him the joy of meeting art connoisseurs from all over the world. Frederick’s works have mostly been collected locally and now as an emerging artist internationally.

“Often in those creative moments I will receive the title as a flash at the very same time seeing an overall impression of the finished work. Now is the time to capture the perceived image in paints as quickly as possible. Within this timeless place of true creation I find my greatest inspiration”
