Morey provides images of Los Angeles Zoo animals for the zoo's publications, wanders through urban Los Angeles in search of irony and visual remnants of the human spirit, but most of all, he loves to visit natural environments. Among his favorites are Yosemite National Park where he spent a month's Artist in Residence in 2005, his home state of Maine, Hawaii, and of course, other areas in California where he has lived since 1978.

Photographer Charlie Morey

Charlie Morey spent his childhood in rural Maine, where the fields, rivers and forests around his hometown, Orland, provided a natural playground. He discovered photography as a hobby during his late teens and not surprisingly found his first subjects in Maine's woodland environment. Four decades later, now living in Southern California, Morey still specializes in nature and wildlife work, although he also enjoys finding images of irony and visual remnants of the human spirit in his urban surroundings.

Now retired from commercial enterprise, Morey, a former magazine editor for L.A.'s Petersen Publishing Company and creative content producer for several dot-coms, devotes his days to capturing images for gallery exhibits, going on occasional photo shoots in favorite natural locations, expanding his "A Face Like Yours..." portfolio with weekly photo excursions to the Los Angeles Zoo, and caring for the dogs he and his wife Amy Diamond have adopted.

In 2005, Morey qualified for an Artist-in-Residence program at Yosemite National Park through a juried process hosted by the non-profit organization Yosemite Renaissance. The photographic results of his residency, an exhibit entitled "Digital Yosemite" appeared at Los Angeles' Infusion Gallery in August, 2005.

His photographs and articles have been published in magazines around the globe, including England's What Digital Camera, Singapore's Asian GEOgraphic Magazine, and a series of photography how-to articles in Petersen's PHOTOgraphic Magazine. His fine-art monochrome work was featured in a March 2008 B&W Magazine article, and his wild animal images appear regularly in Los Angeles Zoo publications.
