Paul Skolnick is Managing Editor at CBS2 and KCAL9, the CBS-owned television stations in Los Angeles. A veteran of more than thirty years in broadcast news, he has at one time or another done just about every job there is to do in TV news – reporter, investigative reporter, assignment editor, producer, field producer, executive producer. He even spent a few months as a sports writer! Prior to joining KCAL9 in 2001, he spent four years as a freelance field producer, working mainly for NBC News on the Today show and NBC Nightly News and ABC’s Good Morning America and World News Tonight. For 12 years, he worked at KNBC in Los Angeles. Prior to that, he was a reporter at KOCE in Huntington Beach, a reporter and producer at KXTV in Sacramento, and an assignment editor, reporter, and investigative reporter at KFSN-TV in Fresno. He is the recipient of Los Angeles area Emmy awards for best investigative reporting (1987) and best election coverage (1998) and AP’s Best 30-Minute Newscast (2005), as well as a host of other awards and honors as part of teams. He is the author, along with Los Angeles reporter Phil Shuman of KTTV Fox 11, of the forthcoming book, The Broadcasting Bible: How to Find – and Get! – Your First Job in TV News. Skolnick holds bachelor’s degrees from the University of California Berkeley (1975) in History and English and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism (1976).
