For Wester,
a native of California’s Central
Valley, the journey to Hollywood
has been measured not in miles
but in paint strokes.
Joey Wester spent most of her
childhood drawing, painting and
listening to music or performing
in rock bands, but her art
career really began in 1996
after she snuck onto Sony
Pictures lot with her portfolio
and found the building where
they ‘hid‘ the Master Artists of
the greatest backdrops in the
entertainment industry. Later
her career expanded further as
Wester’s reputation as an artist
capable of emulating the masters
as well as creating her own
unique signature of color,
technique, styles and texture to
create artworks have been seen
by billions of viewers in the
Movie/TV Industry. Sixty
nationally syndicated TV shows,
including some of today's
hottest such as 24, West Wing,
Justice, Nip Tuck, CSI Miami,
CSI New York, Dirty Sexy Money,
House, Beverly Hills 90210,
Dharma and Greg, Frasier, Mad
About U and movies such as Dr.
Dolittle (starring Eddie
Murphy), The Island (Scarlett
Johanssen), Fun with Dick and
Jane (Jim Carey), Ghepetto,
Scream 3 and many more have her
Art on their sets. Just imagine
the number of viewers who have
seen and appreciated Wester's
art work over the past 12 years.
"The entire process is really
wonderful," says Wester,
"From the initial phone call
through the creative process of
research, development, seeing
the client's face light up upon
delivery and then to see it in
film or TV is truly amazing. I
am privileged to make a living
doing what I love and do best."
Signing Picasso’s name to a
reproduction of Seated Woman and
then seeing that work featured
in Dreamworks 'The Island'
brought a lifetime of dedication
to fruition for Wester. "To be
able to sign Picasso name and
get paid for it, is something I
cannot describe." Her
reproduction of Franz Kline’s
'The Ballentine' was also
featured. Both pieces received
very favorable mention in the
Winter 2006 issue of Set
Décor. Her rare ability to
emulate and recreate art pieces
by some of the greatest artists
who ever lived, as well as her
incredible designing talent, has
made her invaluable in her
field. Wester’s flair for design
also earned her a coveted 2006
Grammy award for creating
the artwork for the CD "Metallic
Attack: The Ultimate Metallica
Tribute." Whatever she signs her
name to, Joey Wester continues
to imbue her works with a
certain and unique tempering.
For Wester, it’s all about
finding the life and the light
at every piece’s center.
After leaving Los Angeles more
than 2 years ago to focus on her
work without distractions, she
decided it was time to return to
Los Angeles where her work could
be appreciated in person, rather
than just on the silver screen
or the HD flat screen. "There is
clearly a demand for my work, so
the time has come to get out of
my studio and touch other
people’s lives directly and
personally. I look forward to
getting out from behind my
silver curtain and meet the
people who are out there
applauding the struggles and
triumphs of the artists who
bring color and life into
everyone’s world. It's time for
me to say 'Thank You'." |
